No Hair

Having had, again, a good mixing day yesterday, and considering the warm reception of my somewhat controversial entry of last week regarding that subject, among others, I decided not to write anything about hair today.

Pity, eh?

So far, we've mixed three songs in thee sessions, though this, in some twisted way, doesn't mean a single song per session. It does mean, however, that there are now four mixed songs. This demonstrates the way musicians perceive mathematics, or maybe the other way around. It is absolutely true, however.
Those songs, just in case you're wondering, are the ones written for, and in some cases sung by, my Funkapella band, which doesn't really exist anymore. However, since I don't want all the good/weird/silly (don't delete anything) songs I wrote for that band to disappear or be forgotten, I'm working on the album myself, using some recordings which were done before the group disbanded, plus a lot of voices by myself.
So:
Those four songs, according to my calculations, take a bit more than twelve minutes of play-time, all in all. This is quite a pity, because I have about five more songs to work on, which, if we assume a very optimistic averge of 3.5 minute per song, will give us 22.5 more play-time minutes, bringing the total to about 45 minutes. This is quite short for a full album. Either I'll have to use some of the English songs I wrote for the band, or I'll have write some new Hebrew songs. The former solution is quite problematic, because I don't like mixing Hebrew and English songs in the same album (I don't mind using both in the same song, in special cases, when the English part is a special C part which quotes from something else). I've no objection to the latter solution, but I was never able to control my own productivity, which means that I might have to wait for many years till for a good enough song to present itself.
Of course, there's always the possibility of recording a cover version of some known song, but I don't like the idea. It's the easiest solution. Usually I like easy solutions, but this particular one is almost like admitting defeat. Fuy.

Having read all this, I guess that at least some of you now regret the fact that this entry was not about hair.

  1. אוו, תעשה קאברים, תעשה קאברים! אז נוכל לצחוק עליך ש-you sold out.

  2. Can I cover your songs too? They'll be atrociously done, with no musical accompaniment (but that's the idea, right?) and will probably sound like I'm strangling a cat in the bathtub.
    Wait… now THERE's an idea!

  3. review all songs. pick 2 or 3 at random and tag them "not good enough". take whatever's left and call it "EP".
the castaway songs can at some point in the future, when you're famous and dead, be the corner stone for your "album we only put out to make money off the abusing of his memory".

  4. i'm willing to settle for "famous, old, haven't written anything new in years, but have to pay for your kids college".

  5. אל תגזימי. אנחנו אולי לא רוצים שהוא ימות אבל אנחנו בטח לא רוצים שהוא יתרבה.

  6. You will be gratified to know that I seriously plan never to have any kids whatsoever. However – I have brothers, who, as far as I know, share some of my lovely traits (one of them can also use my ID card and driving license, looking much more like the pictures in’em than I do) but not this particular inhibition.
    Alas, no hope for you.

  7. I've got no problem with that. Just note Cover Rule #1: In order to cover the song, you first have to cover its writer and composer.
    With 100$ notes.
As for the cat – go ahead. I'll sit here and wait. Let me know who wins…

  8. Oh, and I was hoping I would read the prequel(s) to Mad Nir, written by Nir Jr., based on your notes from 3rd grade.
    No matter. There's always cloning.

  9. Spoken as a true scientist!
    Oh,well. I guess "Mad Nir: K's Jihad" doesn't sound too bad…

  10. I'll kill the cat 9 times of out 10 – and that'll do hell with the statistics.
    Meow.
