Fly by Camel

At the end of an old Muppets episode, I encountered the following joke:

"What's this camel's name?"
"Sopwith."
"What? Sopwith the Camel?"

Now, does anyone here understand it?
Or am I the only one who read "The Big Book of Planes" so many times that it crumbled and a new copy had to be bought?
